인수봉/Insubong - East Face

Insubong is probably the most iconic climbing area in South Korea, not just for its proximity to Seoul, but for the quality and character of its granite. The peak rises over 200 meters from the forested slopes of Bukhansan National Park, with sustained, world class multi-pitch routes, ranging from very moderate alpine ridges to desperate slabs.

The easy access by public transport, along with sweeping views of Seoul from the upper pitches, makes it a very, very popular crag. Good weather days routinely see hundreds of climbers on its various routes. Rebolting efforts have added dozens of modern chained anchors, all of which are circled on the image.

Keen observers might notice a familiar name in some of the routes: two of the most striking lines were opened by a young Yvon Chouinard (also known as the founder of Patagonia), when he was stationed in the country during the Korean War!
